HIS 290: Topics: 1919

An exploration of the events, issues and challenges in this landmark year (1919). In this class we focused on American history and the events that occurred in 1919. We read Ann Hagedorn’s “Savage Peace: Hope and Fear in American, 1919,” which investigated the attitudes, fears, and beliefs of Americans in the year 1919 and discussed racism, the Red Scare, alien and sedition acts, women’s suffrage and so on. ¬†We were also responsible for finding weekly articles from the historical newspaper archives for certain months and/or events.

For our final paper we had to write about a significant event in that year and discuss why this even was important. I chose to discuss the trading of Babe Ruth and its impact on Boston; both the team and the city itself.
