Happy 2013 New Year’s Greetings

January 14th, 2013 by Dean Gayle Brazeau

Happy 2013 New Year’s Greetings from the College of Pharmacy!  I hope you and your family, friends and colleagues all had a wonderful holiday season and break.  I am so excited about this current year. How can one not be excited when we are graduating the first PharmD Class from the University of New England, College of Pharmacy in only 5 months!  The Class of 2013 has truly been an inspiration to the faculty and staff members in the College.  They were indeed pioneers and risk takers with enthusiasm and dedication needed in establishing many new activities, traditions, organizations and outreach opportunities for themselves and their student colleagues.  Furthermore, the successes of our College are grounded in the committed efforts of the founding faculty members and staff as well as all the other faculty and staff members who have joined the College since 2008.  We are very thankful for all you, our preceptors and friends, who have had the faith in our ability to succeed and have become important members in our College of Pharmacy family working towards educating pharmacists for your team.  It truly has been a collaborative and exciting, and at times challenging, time over the last few years.  Yet, we have many more great opportunities to continue to enhance pharmacy education,  the role that pharmacists must play in interprofessional patient centered care and in advancing scholarship and research in teaching and learning as well as the pharmaceutical, biomedical, clinical, and socio-administrative sciences.

We have many exciting activities planned for this spring semester and for the graduation of our first class.  This information about upcoming events and opportunities to be recognized in these events can be found through this link or under the page the right called Support.  Our Annual Fund continues to advance, and this could only happen through individual and corporate generosity. We want to continue to provide this support for our students, particularly in the areas of student scholarships and support for research/scholarship and travel. I welcome the opportunity to talk with you and your colleagues and friends more about the exciting activities or opportunities in the College, and about our first graduating class and its dynamic and exciting impact on pharmacy and pharmacist patient centered care. If you would like to know more the College or opportunities for helping our students, please visit either http://www.une.edu/pharmacy/  or http://www.une.edu/pharmacy/giving.cfm, give me a call at 207-221-4500 or write at gbrazeau@une.edu.

Many of you know how much I enjoy a good quotation each day.  As in the earlier messages, please let me share one that really helps when a day becomes hectic; perhaps this will also help when your days become hectic.  I leave you with the words of Albert Einstein who reminds us that, “only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.”  Again, I am hoping each of you has a fantastic start to 2013 and that I will have the opportunity to visit or talk with you very soon.
